Broke Bites

In 2014, I wrote on the pilot for a food & travel show called BROKE BITES: WHAT THE FUNG? That show aired on FYI Network, and it was produced by BSTV Entertainment. BROKE BITES starred the Fung Brothers, two Asian-American foodies/rappers who traveled the country looking for affordable local cuisine, because they were (as they put it) “ballers on a budget.” My colleague McPaul Smith was kind enough to recommend me for this job, and I had a great time working with the folks at BSTV. Over the years, I’ve written a few hip-hop parodies for MAD MAGAZINE, and I’ve always been a fan of hip-hop, so I think those two things really helped me when writing dialogue for the Fung Brothers.

NOTE: The BROKE BITES pilot was eventually aired as Episode 13 of the show’s first (and only) season. For shows like BROKE BITES, the episodes are sometimes aired out of order.

Here’s a promo for BROKE BITES. The promo largely consists of the “show open” which I wrote for the pilot. That show open was used on the other episodes of the show.

And here’s a clip from Episode 13. I wrote the voice-over (VO) narration, and I’m particularly proud of the “Walter White” line.
