Back to School, Spidey-Style!

As I mentioned in a previous blog post, I wrote a Lilo & Stitch activity book called The Adventures of YOU & Stitch!

It will be available from Scholastic starting tomorrow, September 1st, 2023, just in time for the 2023-2024 school year.

But I also wrote two other Scholastic books that will be available starting tomorrow.

One is a Spidey and His Amazing Friends board book titled The Great Food Truck Caper, which was illustrated by Shane Clester. *

And the other one is The Spider-Man Comictivity Book, which I co-wrote. That book is a sort of a hybrid. It’s part comic book and part activity book. Steve Foxe wrote the “comic book” sections, and I wrote the “activity book” sections. And the “comic book” sections were illustrated by Claudio Sciarrone (pencils) and Valentina Taddeo (colors).

All three of these books will only be available for distribution through the school market. In other words, they’ll be exclusively available through Scholastic Reading Events, so you won’t be able to find them on Amazon.

* NOTE: Previously, Shane and I collaborated on an Avengers Little Golden Book called The Threat of Thanos (which I wrote and Shane illustrated). That book was published by Penguin Random House in 2018.

Hey, You Guys!

Recently, I wrote a children’s book called The Goonies Little Golden Book, which will be published by Penguin Random House on July 4th, 2023.

As you may have discerned from the title, this book is an adaptation of the iconic 1985 film Goonies, written as a Little Golden Book for very young readers.

And much like The E.T. Little Golden Book and The Back to the Future Little Golden Book (both of which I also wrote), The Goonies LGB is not just a Little Golden Book, but a Funko Pop Little Golden Book! That means that everyone in the book is drawn in the iconic, super-adorable Funko Pop style.

Here’s the official publisher description of The Goonies Little Golden Book:

“Hey, you guys!” The Goonies Little Golden Book is based on the classic film that features those adventure-seeking Goonies as lovable Funko POP! figures! Follow Mikey and the other Goonies as they race to find the pirate treasure that will help them save their beloved Goon Docks in this delightful retelling of the beloved classic movie The Goonies. Illustrated in the quirky and loveable Funko POP! art style, this collectable Little Golden Book will delight kids ages 2 to 5—and their parents—with its light-hearted reimagining of one of the funniest films of all time!

I had a fantastic time writing this book, and I can’t wait until it comes out!

Great Scott! The Back to the Future Little Golden Book Is Out NOW!

Hey, everybody! Happy New Year, aka Happy two days after Public Domain Day, aka Happy December 34th! (It would be December 34th, if it wasn’t for stupid January. Thanks for nothing, January!) Guess what? I have some news!

Over the past several years, I’ve written quite a few Little Golden Books for Penguin Random House. Some of them are adaptations of famous movies. Most recently, I wrote The Back to the Future Little Golden Book, which came out today from PRH.

As you may have guessed based on the title, it’s an adaptation of the classic 1985 film Back to the Future, written as a Little Golden Book for very young readers.

Back to the Future is one of my favorite movies and I saw it SO many times when I was a kid (ask me some time about my childhood theory that the movie is a loose adaptation of The Hobbit). So it was a real thrill to write this book.

The Back to the Future Little Golden Book was illustrated by the brilliant Meg Dunn.

And much like The E.T. Little Golden Book (which I also wrote), The BTTF LGB is not just a Little Golden Book, but a Funko Pop Little Golden Book! That means that Meg Dunn drew all of the characters in the iconic, super-adorable Funko Pop style.
